The photo shows the very first "sample" chalet completed at Fishermans Cove Resort on the Island of Mahé on the Seychelles. The sample roof was completed in 2003.

The colouring selected for the Fiber Thatch was brown to match the typical weathered Palm Thatch Roofs on the island.

When Jan Grobler saw the roof the first time from a distance, he could not distinguish the difference. It was now wonder that the owners decided to redo all the chalets with Fiber Thatch.

five years after the project was completed. The roofs really look as if they were done a few months ago. No maintenance is required.

After two years of tropical weather exposure there is no sign on of rot, mildew or any breakdown of material or even color change to the Fiber Thatch roof surface.

A natural material thatch roof having been exposed to the same conditions after the same period of time, showed signs of rot and decay.

A Fiber Thatch or plastic thatch roof on a tropical island.

No maintenance required while a natural thatch on the same Island would need constant maintenance with the thatch layer to be replaced between two and three years.

Humidity is one of the greatest enemies of natural thatch material.

Another Fiber Thatch roof in a "shady spot" on a Tropical Island where leaves would often accumulate on the roof surface.

Africa Roofing is one of the most committed Thatching companies to use natural thatch materials.

We have also spent large amounts to increase longevity and fire retardation. We will also never stop research to improve on the natural materials.

However where natural material won't work we simply have to resort to faux or synthetic thatch.

Certain places in the world with high humidity and other climatic conditions play such a roll that natural materials simply doesn't last. The danger of fire is also very real.

Fiber Thatch is the answer!

Fiber Thatch was developed to solve the problems discussed above. Our product looks so true that even thatching tradesman long involved in the trade cannot see the difference from a distance of 15meters (48 feet).

Are you concerned that the PVC particles used in a Fiber Thatch Tile is not up to the task ?

Do you think that the particles need to be more durable, hardwearing, tough, elastic, pliant or resilient?

Similar PVC particles used by Fiber Thatch in a different application: A sledge slope in a play park.

Fire tests in the testing laboratories at the SABS in South Africa on a Fiber Thatch test panel.

A class "A" fire rating was achieved. Similar tests were done in the USA and the UK.

Full technical reports are available.

The Fiber Thatch roof on this gazebo looks perfectly natural, blends in beautifully with the natural surroundings of this garden and retains the look of traditional thatch but with added life expectancy.

Fiber Thatch and Breeze Houses are available through our UK agents - Africa Roofing UK.
